ARCHITECTURAL ACOUSTICS

Overview

KDA are able to provide a complete acoustic design and noise control package for new build and refurbishment projects, or any element of that package as a separate service.

In today's environment the type of development to which acoustics will have relevance is not restricted to obvious projects such as recording studios, auditoria, nightclubs etc., but extends to include corporate headquarters and office complexes, hotels, conference facilities and legislatures, bars and restaurants, leisure centers and sports stadia, educational facilities, industrial and logistics sites, petrochemical and power generation sites etc.

An acoustic package might include any or all of the following elements:-

• Acoustic feasibility study including initial site survey, noise climate monitoring, identification of noise sensitive premises likely to be affected by the development and, where appropriate, a Noise Exposure Category assessment as required under the PPG/24 Planning and Noise procedures.
  
  
• Liaison with the design team in satisfying the local authority over any noise related concerns and to achieve compliance with any control requirements imposed as conditions to planning consent.
  
  
• In the event that the planning process should go to appeal, we are able to provide the necessary expert evidence to the Ministry Inspector in closed session or at a public hearing.
  
  
• Integration within the design team in bringing the design to the tender stage, with all noise control and acoustics related issues in place. Apart from compliance with specific planning requirements these would include the provision of adequate sound insulation by the building shell, the control of internal and external noise propagation from HVAC plant etc., the provision of adequate acoustic separation.
  
  
• Advice on conditions of tenancy to avoid disturbance by noise between occupiers.
  
  
• In the event that the project has a requirement for a public address, sound reinforcement, aural conditioning or other audio system, KDA are able to design, specify, tender and commission such systems.
  
  
• Supervision of site works by attendance at site meetings, handover inspections and carrying out any completion testing of plant and systems.
