LICENSED TRADE & LEISURE

Overview

Ken Dibble Acoustics are an independent consultancy in noise control, acoustics and audio engineering. This section outlines the range of services available to the licensed trade and to hotel, cinema and leisure site developers. In summary, KDA are able to provide a complete acoustic design and noise control package for new build and refurbishment projects, or any element of that package as a separate service:-

Site Acquisition
Liaison with the client's acquisition and legal teams in assessing the feasibility of a prospective site - including initial survey, noise climate monitoring, identification of noise sensitive premises likely to be affected, appraisal of landlord's acoustic separation requirements, provision of guidance on noise control measures likely to be required and liaison with QS / Project Managers to facilitate capital appropriation. Also, monitoring of developers' works to achieve required shell performance where necessary.

Planning Compliance
Liaison with the design team in satisfying the local authority over any noise related concerns and to achieve compliance with any control requirements imposed by way of conditions to the planning consent. Also preparation of expert evidence in the event of a planning appeal.

Detailed Design Phase
Integration within the design team to bring the project to the tender stage with all noise control and acoustics related issues in place - including compliance with any planning condition requirements, achieving the necessary noise containment by the building shell, provision of adequate acoustic separation between units, control of noise propagation from HVAC, kitchen and cellar plant, and the achievement of an internal acoustic environment suited to the intended venue. Much of the work at this stage is carried out using tested KDA in-house computer modelling and prediction procedures.

Compliance with the 1989 Noise at Work Regulations
Again using computer modelling and prediction techniques and in collaboration with the design house and sound system provider, the interior fit-out would normally be designed in such a way that bar staff etc. will not be exposed to sound levels which contravene the above regulations.

Site Control
Supervision of fit-out works by attendance at pre-contract and site meetings and handover inspection.

Commissioning / Handover
Liaison with contractor in setting up and commissioning sound systems, testing for external noise propagation, internal separation and for compliance with planning and / or licensing conditions and workplace noise regulations. A compliance certificate is normally issued upon completion.
